Psychological Support for People with Dementia and their Family Caregivers
Funding I Manfred Lautenschläger-Stiftung
Duration I 2024 - 2028
Project description
There is a lack of support services for family caregivers in Germany The German Alzheimer Society's initiative to train people to become “dementia partners” in a 90-minute course is a first step, but is unfortunately a long way from providing what family caregivers need: constant knowledge transfer, psychological support, practical tips from experts, but also from those affected and increasing confidence in their own abilities.
The aim of the “TRIALOG-Demenz” program is to become a contact point for people with dementia as well as for family caregivers in the greater Heidelberg/Mannheim area Weekly seminars on topics such as prevention, diagnosis, therapy, challenging behavior, stress management and person-centered care will form the basis for the caregiver groups, with the aim of reducing the burden of care and the frequency of challenging behavior as well as improving the quality of life of people with dementia and their relatives Furthermore, an attempt will be made to implement the “trialogue” approach already established in borderline therapy, i.e. equal discussions between people with dementia, family caregivers and therapists.
