Ferngesteuerte rechnergestützte Erkennung der präklinischen kognitiven Störungen zur Überbrückung der Kluft zwischen dem kognitiven Training und Assessment

Eine der größten Herausforderungen der Gesundheitsdienste weltweit besteht darin, frühzeitig den Beginn der kognitiven Beeinträchtigung festzustellen. Personalengpässe sowie mangelnder Zugang zu Gesundheitsdienstleistungen führen dazu, dass der Abbau kognitiver Fähigkeiten öfters erst dann festgestellt wird, wenn die Demenz bereits manifest ist. Gleichzeitig besteht kein Konsens über die Vorteile großangelegter Vorsorgeuntersuchungen in den Kommunen, sodass politische Entscheidungsträger noch zögern, die für größere umfassende Maßnahmen erforderlichen Mittel bereitzustellen. Der technologische Fortschritt hat zur Folge, dass die Anzahl der verfügbaren rechnergestützten Instrumente für das Screening der kognitiven Leistungsfähigkeit sowie für kognitive Trainingsprogramme und Rehabilitation in den letzten Jahren deutlich gestiegen ist. Seitdem zunehmend mehr ältere Menschen mit dem PC vertraut sind, nutzt eine Vielzahl von ihnen kognitive Softwareprogramme auf eigene Initiative hin. Dies erlaubt ihnen, kognitive Funktionen bequem von Zuhause aus zu trainieren, was besonders nützlich für die Personen ist, die keinen Zugang zu Tageskliniken oder ähnlichen Einrichtungen für Menschen mit kognitiven Störungen haben. Den Ausgangspunkt des vorliegenden Dissertationsprojekts bilden bisherige Forschungsergebnisse, die demonstrieren, dass kognitiver Abbau durch entsprechende Trainingsmaßnahmen in der virtuellen Realität (VR) bereits im präklinischen Stadium erkannt werden kann. Somit strebt dieses Projekt einen Paradigmenwechsel beim Einsatz der rechnergestützten Trainingsprogramme an. Mithilfe der Längsschnittuntersuchung der kognitiven Leistungsfähigkeit in der VR soll außerdem der kognitive Abbau bei Patienten in den Allgemeinkrankenhäusern Nordgriechenlands schon präklinisch diagnostiziert werden.
